Hi all

There have been a few major things going on in Melbourne I would like to talk about. First is the Pearl Jam concert I went to. It was really good! Pearl Jam, while definitely having lost their angst (maybe when they hit their 40's),are still able to write some good music. Their new album Avocado (actually it's self titled but it has an avocado on the front), is definitely a step up from previous albums. Obviously nothing can top Ten or vs, but they are still damn good. During the concert they did a pretty good mix of new and old stuff. I really wish they played Black, but hey, I can't complain, it was an awesome night. The Kings of Leonwere the support band and in case any of you haven't heard them, find them NOW!

Anyway, that was Tuesday. I was considering going to the Make Poverty History concert, but the line up of bands looked mediocre. Shows what I know though! U2 who happened to be in Melbourne on their own tour, and Pearl Jam both made an appearance… TOGETHER! Needless to say I was cursing me and my elitist attitude towards concerts. I really wish I went now, but I guess I will learn.

Enough about music, I want to talk about the G20 summit for a minute. I still find it hard to believe that Australia, the place directly under the hole in the ozone layer, still refuses to ratify the protocol! But I digress. I want to talk about the protestors.

Before I start my rant, I would like to get this clear, I agree with the protestors, The US and Australia(the only 2 countries flat out refusing to ratify the protocol) should forget about their profits and think about their countries future.

Why is it that any protest, regardless of the cause ends upbeing a violent rampage lead by weirdos. I'm not talking about the people who organise protests, they are usually quite sane, although somewhat idealistic and oppressive, it's the idiots in white jumpsuits with scarves over their faces (this really happened).

So in short, a protest where the protestors are telling the government and corporations to stop being so greedy, and to stop hurting the environment, instead turns into a large group of people who are childish and violent, smashing cars, throwing stuff at police and generally acting like idiots.

I'm sure there are people in Melbourne who attended that protest who would be saying something along the lines of "that was a small minority, most of us were civilised and just marched". I don't really care if it was a minority, the rest of you WATCHED these people, who apparently have the same values as you, trash the streets, and did NOTHING, which is almost as bad.

Turns out plenty has been happening in Melbourne this week! Now to the comic, which I thought of a long time ago, watching superman (the TV series with Terry Hatcher). It is just so obvious that no one could take it seriously. There was nothing deep and meaningful in this one, just something that I though was funny.

That’s all for this week
